Money

And totally destroying my Github track record.

Money

I thought back in early May that it'd be fun to look at where the money was coming from. That was a week after the semester had ended and I was ready to do Ghost work full time. Here's what I came up with. (I made the graph and put it here in Ghost along with the featured image and thought "oh, maybe I'll finish that next week.")

I remember thinking at the time that it'd be fun to see how May compared to earlier months. Clearly Jan-April weren't managing salary replacement, but given that I was also teaching full time, it was a pretty nice side-hustle! I wanted May/June to really look at viability of doing Ghost webdev as a full time gig.

Then my spouse had the accident, and this happened:

A Github activity display, showing a total stop of work in mid May-June.

Github activity isn't a perfect proxy for writing code or doing work for clients, since some things don't end up pushed to Github, but that gap? That gap is real.

My contract is due next week (or, you know, not, if I'm not going back), and I'm going to have to make that decision without anything like a "typical" May and June for information. Argh.

Things are picking up around here. I'm not going to make a new money graph for a few more months (at which point we can all admire the mess that was May all over again), but I'm getting lots of requests for new work, and meanwhile I'm working through the backlog.

And speaking of backlog, it's time for me to get back to writing code instead of this post. Talk to you later!

p.s. Thanks to everyone who has asked after my spouse. There's a teeny update on my previous post about his health, if you're curious. TL;DR: He's doing well. Every week is a little better than the previous one.
