Cathy
Founder & lead programmer, Certified Ghost Expert
Howdy! I'm Cathy Sarisky, the founder of Spectral Web Services.
I built my first website decades ago, while a graduate student, doing computational protein design. Now I'm a "recovering academic". Until spring 2024, I could also be found teaching chemistry and biochemistry to undergraduates. Now Ghost is my main gig instead of my side gig, and I'm excited to see where we can go next.
I love programming. I like figuring out how to take an idea and make a functional product. I also like taking existing code and figuring out how to bend it to my will. I tend to look at limitations as challenges. I enjoy adding, changing, and improving functionality. You can often find me on the Ghost Forum, where I like helping folks solve problems, figuring out how to work around limitations, and generally just hanging out. (And also whacking spammers with my Hammer of Moderation, but that's a separate story.)
Lately, Ghost is my main focus, and I'm excited about being a Certified Ghost Expert. It's hilarious when people who've never heard of Ghost-the-blogging-platform start trying to talk to me about real(?!) ghosts because they saw it in my LinkedIn profile!
My recent work has included being a core contributor to Ghost. One of the big projects I have worked on is getting Ghost translated. Which is all sort of funny. I went to college to be a French major, left with a Chemistry degree, learned to program to enable my Chemistry Ph. D., and now am back to using my language and programming skills to help make Ghost work in everyone's native language. Sometimes the world is a strange and wonderful place.
